I sup and you? I wing sup.

Our Ria Formosa, is such a beautiful place and Natural Park <3
I have loads of memories from my youth and childhood in the Ria Formosa waters and sand banks. I am going to share with you two of my favourites stories.

“Catching bait”
I was probably around nine years old and I loved to walk in the mud in our ria. My parents used to go to the middle of the sand banks to catch some bait with salt. First task was to find the small tubes “houses” to the baitworm. Then we needed to put some salt inside the whole, wait and….. in the right moment that the worm would come out to push the salt back out, dig fast with a hoe to catch the worm in the whole and avoid letting it to go back in in a flash!! And are they fast!!! Wow!!! The challenge was very interesting in the eyes of a 9-year-old..eheheh..

One of my delicious beautiful tender unbelievable joyful moments in Ria Formosa, was with my grandparents’ dog: Buggy! What an amazing german shepherd!!!

Together we would run towards the crabs with the big claw chasing the one with the biggest claw to his whole. Then Buggy would dig hard to find him and I would finnish the job, holding the crab still and collecting the claw. The crab would for sure be very hangry but unharmed…evidently enough…mating was no more a choice that year… as they use their big claw to impress the “ladies”. Cooking these claws was very good although very fast to eat.
But what I miss most doing with Buggy was to hold on tight to his tail while he swam along the Ria Formosa super happy to have my company and friendship <3

Later I understood that Windsurfing and Canoeing were also fantastic ways to explore our natural park.

These days I love to SUP and WingSUP specially in the area from the fortress “Forte São João da Barra” to Fábrica or Cacela Velha!!! So beautiful and astonishing the wild nature, the colours…the Fauna and Flora altogether.
And so, I wish to share with you some of the best 2025 WingSUP moments we had in Cabanas de Tavira!!!
